What Does A Climbing Platform Look Like?
This holistic view has taken me a while to come to grips with, mainly because I tend to just start developing my ideas rather than stepping back and planning. This time, however, I made time to crack open a mind mapping tool to help me solidify my thinking.
This is how I see things today. I'm sure it will evolve as the process of building and learning from the Sequence community unfolds.
The platform has 4 main areas:
Why train if you don't have a goal? Goals can be large or small but really are the backbone of motivation and motivation is one of the biggest aspects of becoming better. Having goals make it 110% easier to train and improve.
If goals are at the forefront of your mind when using Sequence it will help you stay on track and keep you motivated.
Seeing how other people are training and improving is inspiring and one of the best ways to learn and grow as a climber.
Not everyone can be surround by climbers that live and breathe training so being able to peek into the way others train and perform is an important aspect of the platform we want to expose.
Having a platform that enables anyone to quickly plan their training was what sparked the journey of building Sequence. So far we have a pretty awesome interface that allows people to plan and modify in seconds but we are keen to keep making this better.
A platform that gives direction, focus and accountability is at the forefront of our minds with every new planning feature.
We also want to really help the debilitating issue most people have when it come to training - starting. There is nothing worse than getting overwhelmed and not knowing what to do. We look forward to developing an awesome solution to help in this situation.
If you can keep tabs on how you are going and what is working then that is a win in my books; something that is extremely hard to achieve with a physical training diary. This is where all the power is, "data"!!!!
If the platform can give you feedback, guidance and educate you to make better training decisions then this will help goals get completed and, at the end of the day, that's what we are aiming to achieve.
Our initial focus for the platform is on the planning and metrics areas but we can see the the addition of goals and inspiration making an appearance very soon.
Going one level higher, seeing a platform foster a community of passionate climbers that care about becoming better is something that I'm deeply excited about. I think it can be done and that is one of the core motivations for me and Deano. A community that helps raise the bar for all involved is exciting and I can't wait to see it unfold in the coming years.
